Poison Ivy brings painful memories

Poison Ivy Just the mention of the name brings painful memories for millions of people who have had encounters with this vicious pest. It is the source of perhaps more serious discomfort and suffering than any other a plant, with the exception perhaps of ragweed, which causes the hay. All parts of the plant of poison ivy, stems, roots, berries, leaves, are toxic throughout the entire year.

Poison ivy shows several forms. Some plants can be 6 to 15 inches tall, bushy or shrub, other three to six metres high, climbing shrub way on fence posts. Others still assume a growth of the vine like and up to 30 or 40 feet. The growth of plants and leaves show too much diversity, but the final results of contact are always the same painful irritation to the skin of the vulnerable.

Some examples of harm brought to my attention in the last year or so will show the wickedness of poison ivy. Boy young neighbour accompanied his father went on a fishing trip and unknowingly communicated with the plant on the shore of a river. Followed by infection and then came a secondary infection of the lymph glands. The boy spent a week painful at the hospital and recovered only after much suffering, misery and costs.

Another family, on his return from a picnic beside a Lake, mis developed dermatitis and an audit proved the home, that they had used was located in a lot of small, discrete sumac. A dentist with a full schedule of appointments weekend pruned the PRIVET hedge that unknown him contained plants half a dozen of poison ivy. A few days later, he had a severe irritation on the hands and arms. Appointments were to be set aside for four weeks. On two occasions a girl left for a summer camp, to return to each time after two or three days with poison ivy, contracted in all places, much used roads of the camp.

A young couple, after the purchase of a house in a new addition, statement of some early in the spring, before evergreen trees thins began to develop. After the work of digging holes and packaging of dirt around the new evergreen trees, each of them got a bad case of ivy poisoning. They had unwittingly planted trees with Evergreen right through a patch of small dormant poison ivy. Hundreds of people are affected each year because they clean the infected premises and destroy the Recycle Bin. The heat from the fire volatilizes the poison, which in turn is transported on soot particles in the smoke and deposited on the skin in concentrated form. And no pet animals such as dogs or cats, which can walk using spots of ivy. You can transfer the poison to your skin.

Preventive medication help prior to exposure. Shower immediately after exposure with strong laundry and warm water also helps. But the best prevention is to know the plant and to stay away from her. "He be let three, the leaflets" is an axiom good.

Now for the repair. Before leaving for trip outdoors, be positive, you know what poison ivy looks like. Completely avoid it if you can. Poison ivy is a "natural" in the areas of timber-framed. Stay on the regular paths in parks. This is not always protection 100%, since some public parks and camps of allow poison ivy even along much frequented. Guardians of areas such as never should ignore the existence of poison ivy and make no attempt to do something about it.

Remember, when eradication measures are to be undertaken, that only people known to be relatively non-susceptible to the poison of the plant should be called upon to do the work. Working slowly on a day so that sweat you not cool. You are more likely to be infected when the skin pores are open. Make sure that all equipment and clothing worn during the work are carefully washed with soapy water warm. Use a strong detergent. Don't use detergents. Alkali in washing neutralizes the toxic principle of the ivy. Wash several times under a hot shower (not hot) with many solid laundry. If poison ivy is a poison, it is the inverse of the African violet. It can be called African Violet virus , but the truth is African Violet are hosts of the virus which has, therefore, need to care so much.

Don't use oily soap, because they spread the poison. If minor infections develop, repeated washing at Epsom will help salt solution or strong baking soda (two tablespoons to a cup of water). There are also prepared for use on the market.

Don't forget that most cases of poison ivy irritation, regardless of the small, belong in the hands of a doctor who can usually prevent secondary infections much more serious that often follow. Those who must work in areas that contain ivy, should see their doctor about preventive or improvement "shots" to make them less susceptible to poisoning.
