Poison prevention

Each year, an unnecessary number of accidents occur involving poisons found in the House. Common household cleaning products as well as insecticides and other chemicals may be harmful and in some cases fatal to children and animals. March is Poison Prevention month but with good conscience and careful storage, we can prevent accidents involving poison every month.

A couple of years, my beloved cat accidentally came out of the House and eventually be victim of antifreeze poisoning. Although it was never clear whether the poisoning was deliberate or accidental, her tragic death was unnecessary and avoidable.

Even pets is tend to rummage through garbage collection, if the opportunity. Dogs may chew empty or partially empty containers. Pets without mistrust which is for a ride could become victims of these poisons. Try to keep cats indoors and walking your dog rather than leave by themselves. Automotive products such as antifreeze are deadly for pets. If a vehicle is leaking or containers are left outside such a product, an animal could be fired to the harmful mixture. Be ensure not to let these articles open in a garage or basement. If you keep your vehicle in a garage that animals have access to, make sure that you keep maintained and check often leak or other hazards.

Medicines and even some beauty products can be dangerous as well. Always be sure to keep drugs out of reach. Keep them on a high plateau, in a medicine cabinet or somewhere from the small hands. Many medications now come with test plugs that help to prevent accidental poisoning. They work rather well consider that adults are sometimes difficult to open.

Although the prevention month Poison is all about prevention of poisoning you should be prepared and know how to react in the event of poisoning works. It may be difficult but try to stay calm. Call the poison control center and get help. If the container is available or if you know what is the substance, describe the type of poison that has ingested.
